cotone biologico gots - gots organic cotton

Opting for GOTS-certified organic cotton means choosing garments that combine comfort, quality, and environmental responsibility.
GOTS organic cotton is grown using only natural inputs and is processed without harmful chemicals at every stage—from cultivation to cutting, sewing, and shipping.

Among the world’s most widely used fibers, cotton is prized for breathability, versatility, and softness. Whether for skirts, trousers, or jackets, cotton is the beating heart of denim—and therefore central to our production.

Conventional cotton, however, has a high water footprint: producing one kilogram of “standard” cotton can require around 20,000 liters of water. By contrast, organic cotton relies largely on rainwater, significantly reducing the textile industry’s water impact.

GOTS Organic Cotton: Natural and Skin-Friendly

GOTS-certified organic cotton is produced without pesticides, herbicides, or other harmful chemicals. The result is a natural, hypoallergenic fabric—ideal even for sensitive skin.
Gentle processing preserves its core properties: softness, breathability, comfort, and long-term durability.

Beyond wearer comfort, GOTS promotes soil health and sustainable farming practices that protect biodiversity and help reduce climate impact.

When Can a Fabric Be GOTS-Certified?

To obtain GOTS certification, fabrics must meet strict composition and traceability criteria. There are two recognized tiers:

1) “Organic” – at least 95% certified organic fibers

The composition must include ≥95% organic fibers. The remaining 5% may include:

  • Other certified organic natural fibers (e.g., linen, hemp, undyed cotton)

  • Man-made cellulosic fibers of natural origin (e.g., viscose, bamboo, soy, mint)

  • Recycled fibers

2) “Made with Organic Materials” – at least 70% certified organic fibers

The composition must include ≥70% organic fibers, with the option to include:

  • Up to 10% stretch fibers (e.g., elastane/Spandex, Lycra)

  • Up to 30% non-organic or recycled fibers, provided they are recognized as low-impact

In both cases, non-ecologically certified synthetic fibers are excluded.

Material GOTS vs. GOTS Supply-Chain Certification

A crucial distinction:

GOTS-Certified Material

A fabric can be sold as “GOTS-certified” if it is produced with organic fibers and processed in facilities that meet GOTS environmental and social criteria. However, this does not automatically certify the finished garment.

GOTS Supply-Chain (Full Product) Certification

This is end-to-end certification: the entire chain—from field to finished product—is GOTS-certified. That means the yarn is GOTS-certified and the weaving/knitting, dyeing/finishing, cutting/sewing, and shipping are all carried out by certified operators. Only in this case can the official GOTS logo appear on the garment’s label.

In short: using a GOTS-certified fabric is not enough; only a fully certified supply chain authorizes the GOTS logo on the final product.
